KEOKUK, IOWA -- Keokuk's new four million gallon water tower went into service just in time for the holiday weekend.
According to the Daily Gate City, the country's second largest elevated storage tank is located behind the old Lincoln Elementary School on South Seventh Street.
The 160-foot-high structure cost about $7.2 million, with 50 percent covered by federal grants and forgivable loans.
Get this ... the water tower's bowl is 136 feet wide, as wide as about four school buses.
And talking about how much it holds ... it contains twice the water of both the city's two older water towers. Each one of those holds one million gallons.
