Original Story: January 3

A proposed hog confinement in Hancock County could add 18 to 20 jobs, but neighbors aren't excited about it.

The Quincy Herald Whig reports Junction Acres LLC has proposed a 5,600 sow farm a little more than a mile from LaCrosse.

The facility is expected to produce 2,500 pigs a week.

As you can imagine some residents who live in the area aren't overly thrilled by the proposal.

One of them says he doubts a local citizens group called Save Our Rural Environment will be able to stop the confinement from being built, but just wants to make sure people are aware of potential hazards that could take place.

There is a public meeting scheduled for Wednesday night at 6 at the University of Illinois Extension Center, 550 N. Madison in Carthage. Click here for a Google Map.

We'll have more on this story later Tuesday afternoon.
