The year that was 2011 will go down in history for many reasons but in the world of weather that seems especially true.

With the dry fall and winter that we have seen here in the area, many of you are asking if this would set some kind of record.  The answer is that 2011 was a year for setting records at Quincy Regional Airport.

Let's take a look at two records in particular that I think set 2011 apart from past years in Tri-State weather.

During the month of June, Quincy Regional Airport received 10.71 inches of rainfall, which was 7.10 inches above normal.

That means the city of Quincy received more rain in June 2011, than in any other June since record keeping began in 1948.

Now let's skip ahead a month to August 2011, when Quincy Regional Airport received just .25 inches of rainfall, which was 3.38 inches below normal.

That means the city of Quincy received less rain in August 2011, than in any other August since record keeping began in 1948.

So, with the dry August and fall season you might think that Quincy's 2011 would be one of the driest in history however, thanks to the winter snow and June rainfall, 2011 will go down as the 26th wettest in history.
