HANNIBAL, MO. -- A backhoe driver escaped safely even after his trackhoe fell into the basement of the old Hannibal YMCA.

Work has been going on for weeks to demolish the building.

According to the Hannibal Courier Post, this close call happened Tuesday afternoon when the 33 thousand pound excavator started to sink through the floor and lost its balance.

The driver was trapped for a while, but was saved by his seatbelt.
