MCDONOUGH COUNTY, ILL. -- A McDonough County family of five is homeless Thursday after a fire destroyed their home.

Firefighters with the Emmet-Chalmers Fire Protection District responded to reports of flames coming from a home in the Country Aire Estates Mobile Home Park on US Highway 136 outside of Macomb Wednesday night.

Chief Dave Estes says the man who lived there was at home when he noticed smoke.

He escaped safely and called for help at a neighbor's home.

Investigators are still looking into the exact cause of the blaze but believe the fire started in the bathroom.

The LaMoine Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is giving aid to the five family members displaced from the home.
