CLARK COUNTY, MO. -- With high school basketball in full swing and other sports under way in the Tri-States, spectator excitement is building.

We were wondering ... what's your take on spectator sportsmanship?

The Clark County R-1 School District issued a reminder about appropriate behavior this week.

School Superintendent Ritchie Kracht says it's expected by both the district and the Clarence Cannon Conference.

In fact, each school within the conference judges the other team's sportsmanship during every game, which results in an overall sportsmanship award each year.

"We just want to make sure our fans understand the expectations of the conference. Last year we were fortunate enough to have the highest rating of the conference and we have a banner in our gym. Our goal is, we want to keep that banner there. We want to have the best sportsmanship in the conference every year," said Kracht. "High school athletics is always competitive. Everybody wants to win, but it's also about learning life skills and learning to deal with things when they don't go your way, how to deal with frustrations and how to handle that. We're hopeful that by having the sportsmanship program, that we can emphasize that and get everybody to act accordingly."

The Clarence Cannon Conference prohibits derogatory and critical comments towards officials, participants, and other fans.
