KNOX COUNTY, MO. -- A former Knox County sheriff's deputy now has a felony charge filed against him in Adair County.

KHQA's sister station KTVO reports that 39-year-old Howard Smith of Edina was charged with a felony bad check charge.

Smith has turned himself in on the charge and posted bond.

A bad check charge becomes a felony if the checks total more than $500, or are written on a closed account.

Smith is being investigated in Knox County for allegedly taking items from the Knox County Sheriff's Office and selling them on eBay.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Department of Drug and Crime Control is handling the investigation.
