KEOKUK, IOWA -- Financial help might be coming to the Keokuk Area Hospital -- but it might require a local match.
The Daily Gate City says the possibility of obtaining state financial assistance for the local health care institution was one of the major topics of discussion during a one-hour session sponsored by the Keokuk Area Chamber of Commerce last week.
“We have a meeting Wednesday with (state Rep. Dave) Heaton,” Kearns told 27 people.
Heaton, a Republican from Mount Pleasant, chairs the House Human Resources Committee.
“We’re going to have to have the party I’m not a member of help us,” Kearns commented.
Some local hospital officials also are going to Des Moines Wednesday to talk to Gov. Terry Branstad.State Sen. Gene Fraise, D-Fort Madison, acknowledged he has received several pieces of correspondence about KAH’s situation and said he has passed the information on to state Sen. Jack Hatch, D-Des Moines, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
