Our week started with 60+ degree temperatures from Canton and Quincy south till you hit 70 in Columbia, but then came the cold.
The cold air of Monday night spawned severe thunderstorms of a tornado producing level in Central Missouri and into the St. Louis region in the early morning hours of Tuesday, leaving a path of destruction.
The severe weather began south of Mexico, MO to near The Lake of the Ozarks, MO with hail reports from 1/2" to 1.5" and wind gust up to 70mph. Hail reports from Central Missouri started in Warrenton with 1.75" hail reported by Troop C of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to 1" hail reports from near Historic Downtown St.Charles.
After the initial storms, a line of storms formed around the St.Louis Metro area which steamed to the east at 60mph and carried "straight-line" winds causing damage in parts of St.Louis and its' Illinois suburbs to the east.
When I re-wind the radar loop from last night it was interesting and a bit telling of natures power to see severe storms just to our south, while seeing blue indications of snow across Southeast Iowa, two very different types of weather just 120 miles apart.
The day after, the Quincy area saw a daytime high of 33 compared to the 63 of just 24 hour before...just another day in the Midwest.
