The Second String Music shop in Quincy is adding another six string accessory to its store, but it's not an instrument.

The store has teamed up with Six String Heroes.

It's a non-profit organization serving military veterans with a free guitar and free lessons.

Six String Heroes originally started in St. Louis at the Jefferson Barracks V-A Medical Center.

Many veterans participating in the program suffer from traumatic brain injuries from their time in combat.

Organizers and volunteers want the lessons to provide the veterans with a positive atmosphere.

"Well it helps a lot with the social aspect of being around other veterans and helps them with relaxation techniques," said Steve Stoner the founder of Six String Heroes.
"You know playing guitar is just relaxing for them and then they get to be around friends and talk about things they enjoy."

Six String Heroes has already provided sixty veterans in St. Louis with a free guitar and lessons.

It hopes to make that same impact here in Quincy.

If you are interested in lessons you can pick up an application at Second String Music or call them to set up an appointment at 217-223-8008.
