ATLANTA, GA. -- If you don't have a tablet or an E-reader, you're about to be in the minority.

A new survey shows that sales of tablets and e-readers surged during the holiday season.

If you're considering buying one, has tips, in Tuesday's Facebook Story of the Day.

One in five Americans now own a tablet, according to a new report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

Read the report by clicking here.

The report found that tablets and e-readers were hot during the holidays, with the number of Americans who own them doubling between December and January.

The lower price range of Amazon's Kindle lineBarnes and Noble's Nook products, and a variety of other less-expensive tablets, offered an alternative to Apple's iPads, which put tablets on the map in 2010.

If you're looking to purchase a tablet or e-reader -- keep a few things in mind.

First, how much do you want your device to do?

E-readers are designed chiefly for reading books, magazines and newspapers, but some will allow you to play music or surf the web.

If you need more than that, consider a tablet.

Also portability.

What's the best size for your purposes, whether you're going to use it only at home, or also take it along when you travel.

And wireless capabilities, wi-fi should be enough for your e-reader, but tablet owners might consider a cellular plan to use that device wherever, and whenever.

How much of an urge do you have to buy an e-reader or tablet?
