A Blandinsville man arrested Monday during a home invasion is suspected in a series of other burglaries in the community.

Russell "Rusty" Coates, 46, is charged with home invasion, residential burglary, resisting police and criminal trespassing to property after a homeowner returned home and found him inside, the McDonough County Sheriff's Office said.

The homeowner ran from the residence and Coates chased her. She managed to call the police and barricade herself in the home.

A sheriff's deputy arrived to find Coates trying to break back into the home, the Sheriff's Office press release said the deputy struck Coates with a Taser.

The Illinois State Police and the Blandinsville Police Department assisted in the response.

Coates is also suspected of entering other homes in Blandinsville without permission. McDonough County Sheriff Rick VanBrooker encouraged anyone who believes their home was burglarized to contact the Sheriff's Office at 309-833-2633.
