MISSOURI -- Student performance in Missouri has taken a big step backwards.
The American Legislative Exchange Council released its state wide report cards.
Missouri is ranked 47 out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia in student National Assessment of Educational Progress.
Measures the overall 2011 scores for low-income students (non-ELL and non-IEP) and their gains/losses on the NAEP fourth- and eighth grade reading and mathematics exams from 2003 to 2011
This is down from last year's ranking of 34.
Illinois is ranked 28th and Iowa is ranked 31st.
It's not all bad news. Missouri received an A-, the highest grade, for its education policy.
Illinois received a C+ and Iowa was graded at a C-.
