QUINCY, ILL. -- Twenty-eight new businesses opened their doors in the Historic Quincy Business District in 2011.

That's just one of the accomplishments celebrated at the district's 34th annual meeting and recognition dinner Wednesday night.

Executive Director Travis Brown also unveiled the district's new smartphone app.

It allows users to search for businesses and events happening in the Historic Quincy Business District.

The app is currently available for the Android and should be available any day for the iPhone.

The HQBD also annouced the following award winners:

Bob Mays Volunteer of the Year: Fran Cook
(The name of the award was changed this year to honor the late businessman.)

Organization Committee Award: Nick Camberlango

Economic Development Committee Award: Quincy Preserves

Design Committee Award: One: Restaurant & Bar

Promotion Committee Award: Priority One Printing & Mailing

New Business of the Year: Sweet Apricot Shop

Business of the Year: Expressions by Christine
