FORT MADISON, IOWA -- A major economic development announcement in Southeast Iowa means the creation of 65 jobs and a $20 million dollar investment.

Pinnacle Foods is adding new product lines to their plant in Fort Madison.

With Iowa Governor Terry Branstad and Fort Madison Mayor Steve Ireland on hand to cut the ribbon, Pinnacle Foods officially opened their 17,000 square foot expansion at their facility.

"It's truly been a partnership and you know it's really great to be a part of this expansion. And it's great for the city of Fort Madison to be involved in job creation and we're happy to do it, said Ireland.

The Fort Madison plant manufactures a complete line of food products including vienna sausages, armour brand corned beef hash and beef stew. Their newest line will include Nalley brand chili. The company likes what they have in Lee County and they wanted to keep their 40 year history going.

"And we're also glad of course that as a result of this expansion we've been able to create some jobs here in Fort Madison. This is a great example, this project of how business and government can work together to create mutually beneficial value," said David Socolow, vice president of corporate affairs for Pinnacle.

The plant employs 535 people and on a normal production day, the facility produces more then three million cans of product.
