An 8-year-old Fort Madison Community School District student was treated for a head laceration following a school bus crash near Wever, Iowa Monday.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the 3000 block of Old Quarry Road, the Lee County Sheriff's office said.

The school bus driver lost control and went into a ditch hitting three trees, Chief Deputy Scott Bonar said.

Seven passengers were on the bus.

One student was taken by private vehicle for treatment.

The driver was cited for failure to maintain control. The name of the bus driver was not immediately available.
