U.S. Senator Dick Durbin met with the Postmaster General Tuesday.

This, after Senator Durbin and other lawmakers secured a voluntary agreement from the U.S. Postal Service to establish a five-month moratorium on closing postal facilities.

According to a news release, the senator says he's trying to stress the importance of keeping that promise while Congress works to enact postal reform legislation.

Durbin says the Senate could begin consideration of comprehensive legislation as early as next week.

250 facilities are being studied for consolidation, including the mail processing center in Quincy.
