QUINCY, ILL. -- Illinois lawmakers are proposing a measure to ban teens from soaking up golden rays in tanning beds.

The current law says that tanners must be at least 14-years-old and have the written permission of their guardians if they are under 17.

The proposed legislation would ban anyone under the age of 18 from using a tanning bed.

This new legislation is sponsored by a state Senator from Chicago.

We spoke with Kim Goodwin who has owned Total Tan in Quincy for more then 6 years about this issue .

She does not agree with the proposed legislation and says that parents should have the right to choose if they want their teens to tan.

The proposed legislation still allows teens to get a spray tan.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is one advocate in the push to keep teens from soaking up ultraviolet rays.
