The Quincy Plan Commission will consider a request from Quincy Presbyterian Church that would allow the ministry to move from 2525 Broadway.

Officials from the Church want to lease space at 255 S. 36th St. The request is for a special permit to use a vacant part of the building for religious uses.

The commission is scheduled to hear the request at its Tuesday meeting.

The property is in the C-2 commercial district and is currently home to several businesses including Fastenal and Doors-N-Moore.

According to staff comments, "religious uses are reviewed ... to assure that adequate off-street parking will be available and that the required distance from conflicting uses will be maintained."

Conflicting uses would include whether liquor is sold within a certain distance of the church.

Demand for parking would be heaviest on Sundays, and that's when the parking needs for other uses in the building would be the lowest. The recommendation by the planning and development department is for approval.
