QUINCY, ILL. -- John Wood Community College has experienced a fairly drastic decline in both student enrollment and enrolled credit hours this semester.
JWCC President John Letts made the announcement at the Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday.
He says student enrollment dropped 15 percent. Credit hours dropped 14 percent.
The college is looking to see how it can improve enrollment in the future.
Letts attributed much of the decline to a state-wide change in instructor qualifications that effect the dual credit courses as well as changes in the school's nursing program.
"As a result of that, we didn't have the instructors in place to teach them, and so that was a big component of the reduction. The changes in our associate degree nursing program for this semester was kind of the tail end of the program. The new one will kick in so we will, I think, experience greater enrollments in that program in the future. The message is, I'm afraid that word has gotten out that we don't have a nursing program and we do," Letts said.
John Wood's fall enrollment was down about 4.4 from the previous year.
