MT. STERLING, ILL. -- The parents of a LaPrairie woman who died last month in a Beardstown car crash are suing Brown County, a sheriff's deputy and the driver of the vehicle, according to the Brown County Democrat-Message.
Brianna Baker died in a high-speed chase that went through four counties January 22.
Her parents, Gina Heinecke and Bob Baker have filed suit against Deputy John Zimmerman and Jacob Hendricks, according to the Brown County Democrat-Message.
The suit alleges Brown County has no procedure in place for a high-speed pursuit; no training for deputies in those pursuits and allowing a deputy to pursue in a high-speed pursuit.
The suit also alleges Zimmerman engaged in an unnecessary pursuit at night for a suspect that he already identified and engaged in a pursuit for a petty offense, which would be running a stop sign.
Heinecke and Baker also say the pursuit was unnecessary, unlawful and dangerous.
The parents are asking for more than $50,000 in damages, including funeral expenses.
Hendricks faces several charges, including eluding a police officer, driving under the influence, reckless driving and several petty traffic charges.
Investigators said Hendricks sped away from authorities, at times reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
The chase went through Brown, Pike and Morgan counties before Hendricks crashed his pickup into a utility pole.
