From 1,300 square feet to 3,000, the new facility will have more than doubled in space.
QUINCY, ILL. -- A family planning practice that has been around in Quincy for decades is expanding due to increased demand.
"We have people that say, 'if it weren't for you, I wouldn't be able to afford my birth control,' so we are here for them," executive director Beverly Simmons said.
Contraceptives are one of the many services the Family Planning provides.
"This includes exams, breast exams, full reproductive exams, STD treatments," Simmons said.
The center doesn't provide abortion services.
Family Planning's services were initially offered to women, but in 2009, the services expanded to include men. That's led to an increase in patients of more than 1,800 every year.
"Our waiting rooms have been really packed lately, and so we knew we needed to expand," Simmons said.
The new facility will have more than doubled in space from 1,300 square feet to 3,000.
"Our waiting room is going to be much larger. We do have people that bring their children in which is wonderful," Simmons said. "We want to have a little play area and we are also expanding to another exam room. We only have two exam rooms right now, so we're going to three. We're also going to have a community education room."
If you're not sure how to talk to your child about certain topics, you'll be able to find all the help you need right here.
Family Planning in Quincy provides a majority of its services to the low- or no-income and the uninsured. However, it can provide care to the insured and Medicaid clients. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay.
