QUINCY, ILL. -- New technology at the Quincy Public Library makes checking out a lot easier.
The three new self-checkouts are a part of the library renovations.
You can put up to five items on the scanner. Each item you checkout has a sticker inside that the computer scans.
Your materials then pop up on the screen, and you click finish.
The machines aren't replacing the jobs of librarians but will make a big difference.
"We were under staffed, so it's allowing our folks to get out and shelf books faster. It's definitely not an instance of us losing jobs here because we needed more staff ... they're new hires," Lucy Bordewick with the library said.
Another new technology that's part of the renovation are lockers outside the building. If you want to put some books on hold and pick them up later, you can call ahead and they will be put in a locker. The librarian will give you a code to the locker. You then scan your library card to check the materials out.
