FORT MADISON, IOWA -- A local mayor has bowed out of the race for Iowa's Senate.

Fort Madison Mayor Steve Ireland announced he is suspending his campaign for the seat now held by retiring State Senator Gene Fraise.

According to the Fort Madison Daily Democrat, Ireland says campaigning was too much when combined with his full-time job, recent health problems and duties as the city's mayor.
