BURLINGTON, IOWA -- An investigation continues into a fatal shooting out of Burlington, Iowa Friday night.

Sgt. Adam Shaefer with the Burlington Police Department said police responded to a report of shots fired at 165 S. Central Avenue just after 10 p.m. There, they found one male dead from a gunshot wound. A female had also been shot, but had non-life threatening injuries.

According to a news release from the Burlington Police Department, the two people involved in the incident have been identified as Macomb, Illinois residents, Jacqueline Renee Williams, 28, and Terrell Robert Miller, 22.

Jacqueline Williams survived her injuries and has been released from University of Iowa Hospital, where she was treated for a single gunshot wound to her head the release stated. The news release also stated that Terrell Miller was pronounced dead at the scene and a preliminary autopsy by the State Medical Examiners Office indicates he received several gunshot wounds to his head and died as a result of those injuries.

In the news release, "the preliminary investigation revealed Williams and Miller have been involved in a relationship and having an argument when they were on the front porch at the Burlington address.  Miller had a handgun in his possession during the argument and shot Williams once in the forehead. A struggle ensued over the gun and Williams gained control of the handgun and fired upon Miller hitting him in the head area several times. Miller was found deceased on the front porch of the residence."

The police, upon their arrival on the scene, recovered the handgun and it has been taken to the crime lab for analysis according to the release.
