KEOKUK, IOWA -- Students in the Keokuk School District will spend a bit more time out of school during the upcoming school year.

According to the Daily Gate City, school will be dismissed at 1:45 every Wednesday to allow teachers more time for professional learning.

During the rest of the week, classes will begin at 8 and end at 3 p.m.

Teachers will continue to work from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Officials say the new end of day will make it easier for students to get extra help after school.
