PIKE COUNTY, ILL. -- The Pike County Sheriff's Department says that Sheriff Paul Petty and a Department of Natural Resources officer recovered the body of an 81-year-old man in a pond in rural Griggsville Monday.

Authorities responded to the location at approximately 8:24 a.m. Monday.

According to a news release, Roy C. Hildreth did not return from fishing the previous day on his own property.

It is believed that Hildreth fell out of his boat into the pond while fishing. Hildreth, who lived alone in rural Griggsville, was fishing from a small boat on the pond.

Niebur Funeral Home will handle the arrangements.
