QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy and the Tri-State area may finally be getting its Street View.

KHQA viewer Chrystal Lay Walden snapped a photograph of the Google Street View car near 12th and States streets as it surveyed the streets of Quincy Monday. Mary Schwedes Meyer also caught the small car with a large camera on top in the Southern View Subdivision in Quincy.

Currently only major streets and intersections in Quincy are available through uses in the popular service. Google officials did not return an email requesting further information about the reason for the presence in Quincy Monday.

Google spokeswoman Deanna Yick said much of Illinois is already available on the service.

"But updating our imagery is something we do from time to time as part of our effort to provide users with the richest, most up-to-date maps as possible," she said.

Street View allows users to get a complete panoramic view from city streets. The company uses a special camera mounted on the car to take the photos in real time. Street View launched in 2007 as an add-on to its popular Google Maps.
