ST. LOUIS -- Through the month of April, the Missouri departments of
transportation
and
conservation
are holding their annual effort called
No MOre Trash!
to bring attention to the littering problem in the state.
Missouri officials say litterbugs costs the state about $5 million a year cleaning up along the highways.
It costs the Missouri Department of Conservation roughly another $1 million a year to clean the state’s forests, conservation areas and river areas.
During the No MOre Trash! awareness campaign, the state recruits more volunteers to pick up trash and encourages Missourians not to litter.
The Associated Press contributed to this story.
