PIKE COUNTY, IL -- No injuries resulted from a Saturday night vehicle fire on Interstate 72 westbound near the Hannibal exit.

John Melton, of Quincy, was driving his Chevrolet pickup truck when he noticed flames coming from the engine around 8 p.m.

Melton and his passenger, Tina Melton exited the vehicle before flames reached the cab. The truck was hauling a trailer of propane tanks. According to the Illinois State Police, crews with the New Canton Fire Department were able to contain the fire and remove the trailer before the flames spread any further. Barry Fire Department also assisted in the fire.

Traffic near the accident was diverted for about half an hour.
