LOUISIANA, MO. -- A Pike County, Missouri inmate is back in jail after escaping the hospital where she was being treated.

According to Pike County Sheriff Stephen Korte, Stacy L. Brown, age 36, (also known as Stacy Grover and Stacy Early) feigned a self-induced injury on Saturday.  Brown claimed to have fallen out of her bunk, injuring her leg, and was not able to put weight on her leg. Brown also had reopened a cut on her leg that she had before being arrested.

A Sheriff's office detention officer took her to the Pike County Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.   While being treated, Brown requested to go the restroom. She was taken to the restroom in a wheelchair by a Sheriff’ Office Detention Officer.  When returning to the treatment room, Brown jumped from the wheelchair barefoot and bolted through the front door of the hospital.

Brown led the detention officer through the parking lot, attempting to break into vehicles as she ran. She then went north of the hospital and jumped through a row of bushes.  That's when officers say she ran through an apartment at 2306 Kentucky Street. The detention officer entered the apartment where an occupant advised Brown had run out the back of the home. The detention officer exited the back of the home and observed Brown attempting to hide in some bushes.

A detention officer chased Brown down and took her back to the hospital to complete treatment.

Brown originally was arrested April 20 for felony of stealing gas from the Casey’s store in Bowling Green that day.

Brown now faces additional charges of escape from confinement and burglary for entering the apartment.
