HANNIBAL, MO. -- The popularity of e-readers has doubled and almost tripled in the last year at the Hannibal Free Public Library. And the library is embracing the technology.

It's had e-books and MP3 audio books available since 2004, and every year the popularity grows.

So twice a month, the library hosts what it calls an e-reader petting zoo.

It's a chance for you to come in and learn what the library has to offer in electronic form.

It's also a chance for you to do a little troubleshooting with your e-reader if you need help.

Library Director Hallie Yundt Silver explains why she calls the events e-reader petting zoos.

"I call them critters. Pardon me if that offends you, but they have little tails you plug into your computer and you bring your critter in and I'll pet your critter and help you learn how to make it sit up and bark and pay attention," Hallie Yundt Silver said.

If you'd like to check out the latest e-reader petting zoo, it's being held Saturday, May 5 starting at 10:30 in the morning. It should be over by noon.

You can also check it out Monday night starting at 6. That one should end by 8 p.m.
