Illinois Lt. Governor Shelia Simon hopes information gathered from her six rural listening posts across the state will develop into information that will benefit rural Illinois.

Simon was in Quincy to participate in her Rural Leaders Listening Post.

The idea is to hear from community leaders and others as to what kind of services they'd like to see improved in the area.

It's an idea that started in 1986.

Now Simon says it's going to take more then just the state stepping in to better serve rural Illinois.

“Consistently we hear about the importance of Internet connectivity as an infrastructure need right up there along with roads, bridges and sewer systems,” she said. “And that's been something that's been interesting for me to not. How consistent it is from community to community.”

The event was held at the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
