QUINCY, ILL. -- Berrian Elementary School in Quincy received a facelift Saturday.
Community members and staff came together to beautify the school building. The group painted the school's front wall, repainted the park map, and potted flowers.
Local business like Home Depot, ADM, Lowe's, County Market and the Crossing donated the supplies, including paint, plants, soil and time for the project.
Berrian reopened after a temporary closure in 1999 and school officials thought it was time to update a few things to keep students inspired.
"We just want this to be a beautiful place for them to come, to make it feel like an extension of their home and for it to represent exactly what we believe in," Berrian Elementary School Principal, Chrissy Cox said. "And that is leadership, qualities of our students that we're trying to instill and we want our walls and our outside to represent that leadership."
The beautification project has been in the works since April.
School officials say they can't wait for the kids to finally see it.
