The Central Lee School District plans to wait until August to decide if another classroom should be added for incoming 1st, 5th and 7th grades.

DONNELLSON, IOWA -- The Central Lee Iowa School District near Donnellson might have to add additional classrooms for some grades next year.
School superintendent John Henriksen said next year's first, fifth and seventh grades have reached a student enrollment point that is causing district officials to begin looking at possibly adding another classroom.
The reason for the possible addition of classrooms is because the district won't have any definite numbers for enrollment and class sizes until registration in August. That's due to the open enrollment policy the State of Iowa has for school districts.
"We'll wait to make that decision until after registration. The numbers are a little less fluid, a little bit harder and we can make a decision to stay where we were at or add that section at the that time so that's what I'm recommending to the board," Henriksen said.
So far, Henriksen says there are 76 students in the first grade, 77 in fifth grade and 79 in the seventh grade and there are only three classes for each of those grade levels.
That averages to about 25 to 26 students per class.
So Henriksen wants to see the enrollment numbers in August before a final decision is made.
He said a change in four or five students either way will play into the decision as to whether or not an additional class will be added next fall.
