PALMYRA, MO. -- The trial has been delayed for the former Palmyra High School teacher and coach accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student.
40-year-old Randall Shepard faces three felony sex charges including second-degree statutory rape, second-degree statutory sodomy and sexual contact with a student while on public school property.
His case has been delayed until July because DNA evidence for the case hasn't come back from the Missouri Crime Lab. The crime lab has a six month backlog of cases right now. Click here to read more in the Hannibal Courier Post.
Shepard's trial will be moved to Monroe County on a change of venue.
The charges relate to Shepard's inappropriate sexual relations with a 16-year-old Palmyra High School student, the Missouri Highway Patrol has said.
Shepard, of Hannibal, was arrested without incident in March and remains in the Marion County Jail on $100,000 bond.
The Highway Patrol began investigating Shepard in January. Shepard, a former assistant football coach and communication arts teacher, was placed on paid leave Jan. 22 and was fired in February.
