Fitness 4 Kids Quincy helping fight childhood obesity

QUINCY, ILL. -- Heart disease, diabetes, and stroke are just a few things you can develop by being obese.
One way to prevent obesity is to start young, and that's exactly what two young Quincy women are doing.
Miss Quincy Megan Ervin and Miss Quincy Outstanding Teen Mackenzie Mahsman have teamed up with several local health clubs to hold fitness and nutrition classes for kids.
The first class is set at Nu Fit 4 You on June first at 3 p.m.
The classes are free and will alternate to other fitness clubs over the next several months.
The program is called Fitness 4 Kids Quincy.
Mackenzie Mahsman says, "The 4 stands for four things that are going to be going on. There's fitness training, strength training, cardiovascular training, and flexibility."
Mackenzie has also set up a Facebook page called C.O.O.L. ... which stands for Children Opposed to Obese Living.

Mackenzie is also working with State Representative Jil Tracy to get a fitness day declared for the state of Illinois.
