QUINCY, ILL. -- The homeless skaters in Adams County tested out a potential home Wednesday evening.

The Quincy Park District hosted an open house at Johnson Park on Harrison Street. The underused tennis courts at the park are the proposed location of a skate park.

At the open house, the public had the chance to come out and fill out surveys to gauge public interest in having a skate park.

"We've had a pretty big turnout. Somewhere between 80 and 90 people show up, and we're gonna review those surveys, and we'll take that information to the board and hopefully come to a decision," Executive Director Ed Seger said.

The Adams County Skate Park NFP group has offered to raised the initial $100,000 needed to build the park, which could be used by rollerbladers, skateboarders, and scooter riders.

"We've done a lot of work. I think we have a lot ahead of us. We have our not-for-profit status. That's important. We have some fund raisers coming up," Andrea Kruse, the parent of a Quincy area skater explained.

She hopes to start on the project soon so her son has a safe and legal place to skate. Her son was issued a trespassing citation for skateboarding in a public park.

The Park District will continue to accept surveys through the beginning of next week.
