QUINCY, ILL. -- A 115-year tradition continued Monday at Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Every Memorial Day the church hosts a Strawberry Festival from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The festival draws in anywhere from 400 to 600 guests who come to have dinner and sample strawberry treats such as strawberry shortcake.

Church members even had to set up an overflow area in the sanctuary for Strawberry Festival goers who were waiting their turn for dinner.

A committee of church members spends about a month preparing for the festival.

"We don't spend a lot of money in publication and in advertising, so it's a way to let people know we're still out here in the country," Tim Robertson, a lifelong member of the church explained, "Also, it's a good way to bring the whole church together. All the members have to help to pull this off so it's just a good annual event to bring everyone together."

The Strawberry Festival also serves as a fundraiser for the church.

Profits go into the church's General Fund.
