HANNIBAL, MO. -- Firefighters are calling the cause of a late-night fire at a former shoe factory in Hannibal “incendiary.”

Crews arrived about 8 p.m. Wednesday at the building at Warren Barrett Drive to find a pile of debris on fire in a basement garage of the building.

Embers from the ceiling fell as firefighters went inside.

It took firefighters about two minutes to get the blaze under control. They remained at the scene for roughly two hours.

The building was the former home of Hannibal Shoe Factory and Hannibal Machine and Welding.

The building had no electricity so investigators will now try to determine how the fire started.
