AUGUSTA, ILL. -- The city of Augusta is without a police department, and it has been that way since April when the town's chief, and only police officer was fired.

Cody Waterkotte tells the Quincy Herald Whig that he was fired unjustly and has now hired a lawyer.

In the meantime, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department is patrolling the town, but that just stretches the department even thinner.
