Two Macomb men are in jail after their arrest early Friday morning on numerous charges of possessing firearms, burglary and fleeing from police.

Shawn Banks, 34, and Christopher R. Bigsby, 32, were arrested after a tip at approximately midnight led deputies to the area of North Edwards and East Calhoun streets.

The tip included information that two men, later identified as Banks and Bigsby, were in possession of a number of stolen firearms, the McDonough County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies located the van and the driver refused to stop, a press release said.

The van led deputies on a chase into rural McDonough County near Spring Lake. The two men fled the van on foot, the release said.

Banks was arrested after a foot chase. Bigsby eluded deputies on foot into a cornfield. After a search that involved an Illinois State Police helicopter, investigators found Bigsby at a home in the 400 block of North Lafayette Street in Macomb.

The van contained a number of guns, including a rifle and shotguns that were reported missing, the press release said.

Bigsby is charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police, residential burglary, possession of firearms by a felon and resisting arrest.

Banks is charged with residential burglary, possession of firearms by a felon and resisting arrest.

Both remain in the McDonough County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
