QUINCY, ILL. -- Just a quick reminder that the Adams County Health Department wants you to get ready for their upcoming hazardous waste collection. The event will be held on Saturday, June 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can bring your acceptable items to the Adams County Highway Department at 101 N. 54th Street in Quincy. Please enter the collection site from 54th and Maine Street.

Acceptable Items:

- Paint
- Used motor oil
- Insecticides
- Old gasoline
- Cleaning supplies
- Mercury
- Eyeglasses
- Double bagged and wetted asbestos
- Household batteries
- Herbicides
- Lawn chemicals
- Antifreeze
- Hobby chemicals
- Fluorescent lamp tubes
- Cell phones
- Auto/Marine batteries
- Paint thinners
- Drain cleaners
- Solvents
- Pool chemicals
- Aerosol paints/pesticides
- Unwanted medicines
- CFL bulbs
- Lead acid batteries

Unacceptable Wastes:

- Agricultural chemicals
- Explosives
- Fire extinguishers
- Institutional wastes
- Sharps, needles and potentially infectious medical wastes
- Propane tanks
- Farm machinery oil
- Business/Commercial sector waste
- Smoke detectors
- Fireworks
- Controlled substances

This is a drive through event, so please stay in your vehicle. No walk ins are allowed. Trained workers will be on hand to receive your items.

It's suggested that you place your items in cardboard boxes which can then be recycled themselves.
