LAGRANGE, MO. -- Few people can say they have a flower named after them. But one LaGrange, Missouri woman can say just that.

The Federated Garden Club of Missouri developed the Betty Leeser flower to honor her as an outstanding garden club member.

Leeser was a charter member of the LaGrange Garden Club, which began in 1958.

Since then, she has spent several decades involved in gardening, floral arrangements and participating in flower shows throughout the area.

We asked Leeser if she had any advice for today's gardener.

"You need to have the ambition. It's not something that just happens," she answered. "You've got to work at it. It's a back-breaking job, and there's lots of knowledge that enters into it, too."

The flower will be available for sale next year.

Leeser also received the Central Region Award of Honor from the national Federated Garden Club.
