QUINCY, ILL. -- This weekend is your chance to participate in a fishing tournament unlike any you've ever seen.

It's all part of the Quincy Bay Blowout this Saturday at the South Side Boat Club.

Part of the event includes the Redneck Fishing Tournament in which teams of fishermen compete to fish for the most and biggest Asian carp in the Mississippi.

All proceeds from the fishing tournament go to the Quincy Volunteer Emergency Corps, whose members rescue and search for boaters who go missing on the river. 

There aren't really too many rules to this fishing derby - anything from baseball bats to nets are allowed to catch the pests.

While contestants can club carp for a good cause ... they're also helping exterminate a problem from the river.

"The Asian carp have pretty much taken over the river. They make up about 80 percent of the biomass in the river now. And so we figure we're helping get rid of a pest, while having a little bit of fun while we're doing it," Glenn Sanders, President of the Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fisherman's Association said.

It is illegal to throw back any Asian carp you catch on the river.

So fish caught during this event will be used as fertilizer in food plots for area wildlife.

Registration runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, with the tournament beginning at noon.

The cost is $25 a boat.

Other events at the Quincy Bay Blowout include youth duck and goose calling contests, an open archery range, hunting and fishing seminars, deer head measuring, a sportsman's flea market and casting contests.

The event is sponsored by the Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fisherman's Association.
