WEST BURLINGTON, IOWA (AP) -- Authorities say a mishap at a Fourth of July fireworks display in southeastern Iowa left four employees of the company shooting them off in the hospital with minor injuries.

West Burlington Administrator Dan Gifford said Thursday the accident happened shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, five minutes into the city's annual show, when an ash fell into a container and ignited unlaunched fireworks.

He says one of the employees of J & M Displays was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Three others initially declined care but later went into the emergency room for treatment. One or more had burns.

J & M Displays is based in Yarmouth, Iowa, and calls itself one of the Midwest's largest fireworks suppliers. Company officials confirmed the accident Wednesday but declined further comment.
