HANNIBAL, MO. -- Tom Sawyer's first sweetheart just received a big gift.

Becky Thatcher's House in Hannibal received a $50,000 donation for renovations.

The renovation project was already underway before the anonymous gift.

The new Becky Thatcher House will be geared towards children.

Exhibits will focus on what it was like to be a child in Hannibal during the 1840s and 1850s.

Organizers hope the new Thatcher House will be a major attraction.

"They're [tourists] coming to look for the inspiration that Mark Twain took with him from Hannibal that lead to those great writings so to have another one of the structures, it becomes involved in the stories available, is very important to us," Henry Sweets Mark Twain Boyhood Home curator said.

Renovations to the Becky Thatcher House are expected to finish by next year.
