Trial underway for man accused of strangling mother

KEOKUK, IOWA -- UPDATED: July 12 at 4:30 a.m.

The murder trial of a Keokuk man who allegedly strangled his mother continues Thursday.

The Keokuk Daily Gate City reports police, business owners, and friends of the Pitman family testified Wednesday.

One business owner testified he sold Adam Pitman some bath salts and synthetic marijuana the day before Rosa Pitman was murdered.

Pitman supposedly confessed to the crime to a Fort Madison Police officer after he was stopped for a traffic violation.

More witnesses expected to testify Wednesday in the trial of the Keokuk man accused of killing his mother.

23-year-old Adam Pitman is charged with strangling 46-year-old Rosa Pitman to death back in August.

Tuesday a police department witness testified Pitman was recorded on police surveillance video when he told an officer he'd just killed his mother during a traffic stop the day of her death.

The trial begins Tuesday for the Keokuk man accused of killing his mother.

23-year-old Adam Pitman is charged with first degree murder in the strangling death of 46-year-old Rosa Pitman in August. Click here for the original story of the murder and its developments.

Rosa Pitman was found dead in her home Aug. 30 of last year. Adam Pitman was stopped by Fort Madison police a short time later.

Investigators said that he admitted to killing his mother.

An investigator revealed that Rosa Pitman died after being strangled with an electrical cord.

Adam Pitman is being held at the Lee County Jail on a $2 million cash-only bond.
