ADAMS COUNTY, ILL. -- A 23-year-old Adams County man is in custody for allegedly injuring a child.

Andrew Gerdes of Camp Point was arrested when deputies responded to a keep the peace call and found a one-year-old child with bruises and red marks.

After a search, deputies located Gerdes and brought him to the Sheriff's office where he confessed to hitting the child.

Gerdes is in the Adams County Jail.

He's charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery.

The child's injuries did not require medical treatment.
