NAUVOO, ILL. -- Illinois' oldest vineyard gave Nauvoo residents a little taste of Springfield Sunday.

Baxter's Vineyard and Winery held its third annual Dog Days of Summer.

The Springfield band, Hipbone Sam and Friends, performed at the event.

Attendees were able to taste a variety of wines, build their own hot dogs and, of course, eat some cheese.

Baxter's Winery is family-owned, established in Nauvoo in 1857 by Emile Baxter.

Brenda Logan and her husband are the fifth generation to own the vineyard.

"We like to bring the community out and show them what we got out here and all the history that the winery and Icarians brought to the area," Logan said.

Baxter's Vineyard offers free wine tasting and self guided winery tours daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sundays.
